Vista
These are the problems I’ve seen with Vista, TODAY. Admittedly it was Friday...
Poor (brand new) laptop with a malfunctioning DVD drive. Turns out the drive was fine, just Vista decided to upgrade the software for the DVD drive and made a hash of it. Result - re-install Vista or your DVD’s won’t play. Apparently, you can’t fix this.
Stop press: by manually deleting the INF cache it is possible to fix this, sometimes. Seek professional help, then get an IT person to fix Vista for you.
What do you get if you have four 1Gb modules in your machine? 3Gb! Well that’s what Vista thinks. Silly customer thought that buying four modules would give him 4Gb of RAM. Vista says No.
All DVD movies and CDs are now released in rap versions complete with scratch (winding the music backwards and forwards) well if they are not, Vista will do this for you. Shame if you don’t want your movie to play like that.
And if I see that stupid screen dimming, “did you really want to do this?” again, I’ll scream!
Industry stalwart Jerry Pournelle said on TWIT episode 118 that Vista was the worst operating system Microsoft had released, with the possible exception of Windows ME. No one on the esteemed panel disagreed with him.
For someone so respected to make such a damning statement, it is true - Vista stinks!
Here endeth the rant.
